The device is usually implanted under local anesthesia. It is installed under the clavicle. And the comings out electrodes (coated wires) are placed in the heart. This procedure usually lasts for 1-2 hours. The electrodes are introduced into the vein at the shoulder or at the base of the neck. The cardiologist leads the wire in the right chamber of the heart, checks its position on the screen of the X-ray machine, and secures the wire stitched on the shoulder. Then the wire is connected to the pacemaker, which is placed in a small "pocket", the space between the skin and chest muscle. The doctors check the work of the device and then suture the incision. As a rule, for several days patients feel some kind of discomfort. Some bruises can be formed in the area around the wound. At the edges of the wound a slight reddening of the skin can usually be noticed. This occurs immediately after the surgery and must be held for several days afterwards. In many cases, patients go home the next morning after the implantation of a cardioverter-defibrillator. It is important to undergo regular cardioverter-defibrillator checks. The first test is usually performed after about four weeks after the implantation, and then approximately every six months.
